What I Want To Be When I Grow Up

Yesterday I overheard the 7-year old discuss with his granny about what he wants to become when he grows up .

Boy: “I want to be a teacher.”

Granny: “Don’t want lah, the pay is very low one.”

Boy: “Then I want to be a police.”

Granny: “Cannot also lah. If you don’t take bribe you also don’t earn a lot of money one!!”

Boy: “I want to be a Bomba (Fireman), can?”

Granny: “For what lah!! So dangerous and then no money one!! Cannot!”

Boy: “Aiyoo…then I want to be Postman. I want to sell letters.”

Granny: “Sell your head lah sell. Letters not for selling one ok!”

Boy : “……*annoyed and speechless*………”

Granny: “Why you choose all these jobs lah, no money one.”

Boy: “Because Teacher say one.”

Granny: “Be an architect lah. Got a lot of money one.”

Boy: “I don’t want.”

Granny: “You want also cannot lah. Your Mathematics results so poor.”

Boy: “Then I want to be a soldier!”

Granny: “……*annoyed and speechless*………

I just laughed so hard at their conversation. No idea where it headed and how it ended.

maria: well at least she is opting for something more professional and well paying :D

but then again, what im amused with mainly is the reaction from the granny - teaching him the value / meaning of a profession by the dollar and cents.

Are we adults really getting too in tuned with the harsh reality or are the kids still so pure and innocent at hearts during this place and time?
